Bread dough is rolled up with a cinnamon and orange sugar mixture, baked in a honey and pecan glaze, and flipped while still warm to keep these Honey Orange Pecan Sticky Buns moist and flavorful.
I’ve been absent all week and it is not due to being busy so much as it is uninspired. Once in a while I get stuck in a recipe-creation rut and the recipe photos I have archived never seem “enough.” These Honey Orange Pecan Sticky Buns seemed just that because I took the photos back in December where the unforgiving glow of the snow was peering through the windows. My solution was to apparently photograph brown food on a brown surface which is quite genius if you did not know already. Joking of course.
Regardless of the rather…well, brown photos these sticky buns are delicious and turned out better than expected. When I set out to make these I wanted to make them slightly “healthier” and I am using that term loosely because these are not to be confused with a health food. They are plenty decadent and even more flavorful than the traditional variety you may find at a local baker.
Easy yeast dough is rolled up with fresh orange zest, cinnamon, and sugar placed in a pan that is lined with a pecan, honey, and orange mixture. While in the oven the honey mixture at the bottom begins to caramelize and bubble into the buns.
The secret to making these sticky buns is the final step before serving. Once removed from the oven the buns need to be inverted immediately to allow for the honey and orange caramel to seep into the buns. Once cooled they become sticky sweet and require all of your will power to put down.
They glaze themselves, how can you beat that?!
Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!
